Name: Julie Paris
Brief Blurb: Julie performs mostly 50s and 60s pop, rock, light jazz, and country rock, as well as music for ball-room and old time dancers. She has a long history in the music industry, though mostly as a “second job”, with her major career being in adult education. As a vocalist, she pays tribute to artists such as Patsy Cline, Peggy Lee, Connie Francis, Skeeter Davis, Helen Shapiro, Sandie Shaw, as well as many mail artists of the 50s/60s. Below is a brief overview of her experience. 1963 – Joy Boys (Sydney) – dances. Gained 1st place in Talent Quest sponsored by Channel 9 Sydney, to appear on Channel 9 in 1964. 1964 – various town hall teen dances in Melbourne (Malvern, Frankston), appearing with acts such as Bobby & Laurie. Appeared on first ever Australian New Faces, Channel 9 – 1964, singing Helen Shapiro’s “Little Miss Lonely”. 1964 – Brisbane: Cloudland Ballroom (private functions) promoter Ivan Dayman. Mersey City (Festival Hall) with acts such as Tony Worsley & Blue Jays, Russ D Wylie & the Kodiacs. Teen Scene (Channel 9) with resident backing band The Planets. 1969 Won Brisbane heats of New Faces. 1970-71 band member of Sound Syndicate – big band. Promoter Keith Lloyd. Resident band Glen Hotel and private parties; backing artists including Johnny Farnham, Johnny O’Keefe, Lonnie Lee. Focus on covers including Otis Reding, The Supremes, Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66. 1989-91 Redlands Modern Country Music Club – participation in country music festivals. 1999-2002 – All Shook Up – 50’s/60’s band - private gigs, as well as rock n roll clubs. Featured on Brisbane Extra 2002-2008 Rock n Roll Spectacular shows. 2007 formed band “FLASHBACK”, staged own (rock n roll and country style) dances, as well as performing for old time/new vogue dance parties. Currently working with her husband on keyboards and using professional backing materials to achieve the right sound for the eras represented in song. Julie has a deep slightly husky voice, which lends itself to a broad cross section of music.
