Name: Vikki Clayton
Brief Blurb: In the early 1980s, the fun truly began. Vikki was invited to sing with Ragged Heroes, a cult folk-rock band, and she thrived in the role. “I’d found my forte,” she said. “I’d always kicked around with rock bands and played in folk clubs, but here was a chance to combine my two favourite musical loves.” The fusion of styles gave her a platform to explore her voice in a way that felt both authentic and exhilarating.\r\nAround the same time, a copy of Vikki’s album Lost Lady Found found its way to Fairport Convention. Meanwhile, Jerry Donahue—renowned guitarist and producer—heard Vikki sing and was moved to tears by her uncanny resemblance to Sandy Denny. That emotional response, coupled with Fairport’s interest, sparked a new chapter in Vikki’s career.\r\nWhat followed was a long and fruitful period of collaboration. Vikki began appearing regularly with Fairport Convention, eventually fronting the newly revived Fotheringay—cheekily nicknamed “The Nerve.” She also formed her own band, bringing together an exceptional lineup of musicians including Clive Bunker, Fred T. Baker, and Chris Conway. Each project showcased her versatility and deep connection to the folk-rock tradition, while carving out a space that was uniquely her own.
