Name: The Willow Seed
Brief Blurb: "The Willow Seed are a trio from Brisbane that deliver an authentic blend of folk and roots music. Fronted by local singer-songwriter, Catherine Stevens, the band has developed their sound around Catherine's songs and a love of all things roots, folk, country, soul, funk and jazz. Heartfelt and evocative lyrics, delicate acoustic guitar playing on nylon string and twelve string, backed by strong, melodic bass lines and backing vocals of bass player, Stephen Meldrum and tight grooves from drummer, Brenainn Simpson.

The band have been together since Catherine decided two years ago to expand her solo performances with bass and drums, to give life to the strong rhythmic element in her songs. With a background in jazz and classical guitar playing, Catherine wrote her first song after an inspiring trip to Hawaii where she regained her love for reggae and funk music. Inspired by the people, culture and history of the islands she visited, her first song was born, followed by many more. Catherine’s songs explore elements of love, life, growth, the journey, connection to community and the land, all encased in a set of rich melodies and tight acoustic grooves. The Willow Seed have been performing at venues around Brisbane for the past two years and spent the later part of 2012 with a local Sunday afternoon residency in Brisbane.

The band started 2013 performing at the Woodford Folk Festival with international Rapanui artist, Yoyo Tuki, performing at the Songlines Tent twice to a full house. The last three months have seen them focus strongly on recording material for their debut album and upcoming single to be released in the not too distant future. They look forward to many more gigs this year with plans of an East Coast tour in the works."
