Name: | Megan Cooper and The Pretty Pennies. | Brief Blurb: | With eclectic, authentic and craftier storytelling than your average, singer songwriter Megan Cooper is a name that has been earning praise since the release of her debut album, Ghosts, Choirs & Kings in 2014.
Arne Sjostedt in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Best Albums of 2014, cited her current album in his very select list of works that “got” to him and One Stop Country in Nashville has heralded her as a “unique and defining voice”, while Noel Mengal from the Courier Mail says she has: “one of the most striking voices in Australian Country”.
With an inbuilt affinity with everything that is good in twang, Cooper delivers a deliciously elegant serving of aural sweetness that is rooted in the traditions of Americana and Australian Folk.
Her songs are full of addictive melodies and bitter heartbreak, all with a sting in the tale.
In January 2015, Megan walked away from the Tamworth Songwriter’s Association Awards with a swag of accolades: Country Song of the Year, Ballad of the Year and Contemporary Song of the Year. Her single Virginia Falls was also a finalist in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition.
The first three singles ‘Virginia Fall’, ‘27 Degrees’ and ‘Texas’ have received national airplay - leading to spots at major festivals around the country.
Her big stages include QPAC 30th Birthday celebrations in April, Gympie Music Muster, Urban Country Music Festival, Bony Mountain Festival and sell-out shows with Paddy McHugh and Brad Butcher at Tamworth Country Music Festival this year.
It is live on stage where Cooper seals the deal with a “voice that is born to sing country – one part little girl sweet, one part knowing/world-weary” (Martin Jones, Rhythms Magazine). And often described as one of the best voices in country.
