Name: Merryn Smith
Brief Blurb: After building up her courage with many rabble-rousing and roof-raising performances with her comrades in Hobart’s Grassroots Union Choir, Merryn Smith has polished up her swag of songs and gone solo. Her witty and wistful songs have captivated audiences in the deep South, at Hobart’s Single Malt Sporran folk club, the Cygnet Folk Festival and Tasmanian A Cappella Association’s events. Since being run out of Hobart Town she has brought her act to Brisbane, performing at the Madass Folk Club in 2008 and 2009. Hear the “lovely and intriguing song about the butcher’s sister” (KristinaOlsen), the “Appalachian Greek tragedy” (Richard Lawnton) of the Poisoned Well, “that really funny one about the old lady” (some drunk girl at the Lark Distillery), and whatever else the time and mood allows. Merryn mostly performs a cappella, but Mark Ziza will be joining her on guitar for a few songs.
