Name: Rough Red
Brief Blurb: One of the country’s most traveled bands, Rough Red has taken its original brand of folk/roots music to Europe seven times, performing at some of the world’s great music festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Bardentreffen in Nuremberg, the Vikedal Roots Music Festival in Norway, and pioneering the way for Australian acts at the Skagen Festival in Denmark, which they have played themselves five times. Seven critically acclaimed albums have been produced in a long career. A review in Rhythms Magazine said this about the band… “Rough Red is riddled with enough anomalies to arouse apoplexy in a psychoanalyst. On one hand, they’re your quintessential macho Oz band, with pointed Aussie accented folk/rock statements, and yet, paradoxically, they’re a well-kept secret at home compared to Europe. On the other hand, the band also has a SNAG side that’s expressed in genteel balladry with pop and country sensibilities. The fact that all members are singers and songwriters with musical outlets outside of Rough Red might account for the band’s wide range of references and material and its polished vocal harmony”.
