Name: Matty Witney / Dried Spider
Brief Blurb: Matty Witney is the son of long-time QLD folkies, Jamie and Julie Witney. For the past 6 years he has been living in Chicago USA, where alongside building a following for his band 'Dried Spider' he has been involved in the jazz and improvised music scenes of the culturally rich city. In 2021 he released 'Everything is Touching', an album which has gained radio play around the world and received lots of love from the Chicago musical community. He has returned to Australia for 6 months, and is spending time in Gympie with his father who is recovering from a burns injury. While innovation sits high on the totem pole of musical value for Matty, it is ultimately story and song that take top position. His set on Tuesday will feel like some blend of David Byrne, John Cage, Joni Mitchell, and Jimi Hendrix, as he wields his electric guitar dynamically through tapestries of harmonic colour and texture. It may also include some saxophone, and a few folk ballads. Some projects Matty has been involved with include (Mama Kin, Clairy Brown & the Banging Rackettes, Harry James Angus, Moreton).
