Name: Kirsch et les Glaçons
Brief Blurb: "What is chant and what are chansons? Both are song, but chant refers to traditional, folk, eclesiastical, ceremonial or 'functional' song, as well as birdsong. In french a 'professeur de chant' is a singing teacher. You cannot compose a 'chant'. You can arrange one, as many composers have, like Britten or Canteloube, or Stivell with the celtic flavoured chant Breton.

But you can compose a chanson, and thousands have. In fact the body of chanson repertoire is gigantic and rich, covering centuries,( as is the repertoire of chant traditionnel), and choosing just 45 minutes worth of it is torture.

On Feb 4th we'll do Aznavour, Brel, Gabriel Yacoub, Piazzola (in French), William Sheller, Boris Vian, Michel Legrand, and maybe Yves Montand or Piaf..

Trish was born in Australia and has lived in France since the Pleistocene period.

A career as a mezzo soprano in opera, contemporary classical music, baroque and acapella ensemble singing eventually led her back to her first love, the piano, and composition. She now also accompanies herself in a repertoire of swing jazz, French chanson and pop.

Philip Griffin, also a composer, is an experienced accompanist, on a variety of instruments. Currently Brisbane-based, he has lived in New Zealand, Israel, Switzerland and England where he has performed widely as a musician in many styles, including baroque, renaissance, Arab, Turkish classical, jazz, Hawaiian and now French."
