Name: John Hockings and Ewan MacKenzie play the songs of Tony McKennariey
Brief Blurb: Back in the misty past of Brisbane music, there was a band called Moose Malone and the Country Casanovas. Their stomping ground was the Grizzly Bar at the Stock Exchange Hotel, and for a few years in the late seventies they were a force on the local music scene. They signed to RCA and went south, made a great album called House of Blue Lights ... and faded into obscurity. Tony McKennariey was a guitarist/singer/songwriter in the Mooses, another being Ewan MacKenzie for a time. Ewan and Tony also formed the MacKenzie McHenry Band in the early 80s. Tony's playing and writing were extremely influential in the burgeoning Australian Country Rock scene of the time, and he's remembered fondly by many. He passed in 1990. Ewan recently came across a tape of some songs that Tony had written and recorded in 1983, and realised that local singer John Hockings loved the same music that Tony had, Townes van Zandt, Guy Clark et al. So began the Tony's songs project. They are excited to honour the memory of a great Brisbane musician by performing his songs for you, plus a few from his idols.
