Name: Nigel Wearne
Brief Blurb:

Nigel Wearne is a folk/country singer-songwriter whose music has an intimate and poignant narrative. Equipped with personally handcrafted guitars, his music melds finger-style guitar, clawhammer banjo, folk and honest storytelling. Gleaning influence from Kelly Joe Phelps, Townes Van Zandt, Sun Kil Moon and Bob Dylan, he tells stories of mischievous bank robbers, wandering poets and his love of eggs. Nigel has performed at various music festivals throughout Australia, including the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Cygnet Folk Festival and the Queenscliff Music Festival.

In 2012, channelling his love for Americana, bluegrass and folk, he formed The Cast Iron Promises to record his third album Black Crow. With a timeless string-band sound, featuring mandolin, fiddle and double bass, The Cast Iron Promises brought new life to his music. Black Crow garnered wide critical acclaim including a 4 star review in Rolling Stone Magazine and a nomination for Best Country Album at The Age Music Victoria Awards. After touring and performing at numerous festivals with The Cast Iron Promises, he’s returned to his roots as a solo performer beginning a new chapter of reflective song writing.

With frayed poetic edges and honest grit, Wearne is “one of Australia's emerging songwriters” (Tone Deaf) and has “the narrative-fuelled prose of Paul Kelly” (Beat Magazine). Recorded at Mixmasters Studios (Adelaide) by Mick Wordley (Jeff Lang, Chris Whitley, Archie Roach, The Waifs), Drawing Circles is a solo record that’s raw, compelling and reflective. With intricate finger-style guitar, clawhammer banjo and piano, Drawing Circles explores the dark corners of creativity, irregular swells of life and the circles of our existence.
