Name: Steve Grady
Brief Blurb: Johnny Cash once quipped, "Of emotions, of love, of breakup, of hate and death and dying...It covers a lot of territory, country music does." Perhaps this is why the music of Brisbane based singer-songwriter Steve Grady resonates with his listeners. Although only in his twenties, the "son of a preacher man" born in Papua New Guinea, has led a full life traipsing around this sunburnt country playing well over 200 live shows and winning the admiration of both punters and industry folk alike. So far Grady has released Hotel Chelsea in 2009 (SK Records) and Youth Skin 2011 "one of the best singer songwriter albums you'll hear this year" (Noel Mengal), produced by ARIA award winning musician and producer Shane Nicholson. Kasey Chambers features on the track "Concrete Garden" and with Nicholson covered Grady's painful ditty, "She waits till I'm asleep" featured on the "Wreck and Ruin" album (2012). For Grady the process is just as important as the product. Hiring a one hundred year old community hall in Kallista in regional Victoria, Grady bunkered down will fellow acoustic troubadour Dan Parsons early 2014 to record his latest long-player. "For me it's important to utilise my surroundings in my recordings...the atmosphere and tone of the setting is significant...this was my most DIY and organic approach to an album...I'm pleased with the vintage sound that has eventuated from recording to tape". The multiple QMusic Award nominee and APRA songwriting award winner has been featured on both ABC Radio and Triple J, and has performed at multiple festivals including, Woodford Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Gympie Muster, Katoombah Folk Festival, and a guitarist for numerous artists including Sue Ray, Josh Rennie-Hynes, Dan Parsons & Megan Cooper.
