Name: Sebastion Flynn and Martin Reese
Brief Blurb: Sebastian Flynn and Martin Reese, both originally from the UK have performed together in a variety of traditional music line ups in Australia for over 15 years. Together with their close rhythmic sense, they have a similar approach to improvising and arranging as well as a wish to personalise their approach to traditional music. In addition to a broad repertoire of Celtic and European traditional music they have both written and recorded a number of original tunes with various musical line-ups. They released the CD ‘Procession’ in 2013 – comprising entirely original music drawing on the rhythmic and melodic influences of Celtic and European traditional music. They are currently both members of the 10-piece eclectic Brisbane-based World music group, the Ensemble Diaspora, most notably performing at the G20 cultural events in Brisbane during 2014 and various festival events. Martin Reese - (Mandola, Mandolin & Banjo) - is from the UK. Whilst studying in Bangor in Wales, he became involved in traditional music sessions, playing Mandolin. Martin has since developed his playing of Mandola and Banjo, but Mandolin has endured as his instrument of choice. Martin was a member of the Celtic group Malarky and also performs with The Jar, the Ensemble Diaspora World Music group and Tawny. Martin has for many years been one of the mainstays of the regular traditional Irish music sessions held weekly in the Queensland Irish Association in Brisbane. Sebastian Flynn (Fiddle) - Originally from Liverpool and initially classically trained on violin, Sebastian has played in various traditional music groups including the Lyra Greek Dance Ensemble in London, as a musician for various theatre companies and music groups in the UK, and subsequently with Celtic groups Malarky and Potcheen and diverse World music ensemble, Ensemble Diaspora in Australia. From a background in Irish music he also has an interest in European folk music and improvisation.
